  • Plotting the Next Storm: Behind the Scenes of Mist of Fallen and Book Two

    When Mist of Fallen was finally released, I felt a mix of awe, vulnerability, and gratitude. Seeing something you’ve held so close for so long out in the world is surreal. After years of translating, rewriting, and re-editing since 2019, the story that began as a whisper finally found its voice.

    But the journey doesn’t end there.

    In fact, with Mist of Fallen now breathing on its own, I’ve shifted into a new, equally exciting (and chaotic) phase: plotting Book Two.

    Revisiting the World of 

    Mist of Fallen

    Book one introduced readers to a shadowed version of Colorado where divine forces walk the Earth, hidden beneath mist and memory. At the heart of it all was Megana, pulled between a past she can’t fully remember and a destiny she never asked for. Her story unfolded through grief, love, betrayal, and an awakening of power.

    Writing it in first person meant living through her eyes. Every twist she felt—I did too. So as I begin to map out Book Two, I’m not just continuing her story; I’m expanding the world that shaped her.

    The Challenge of Plotting a Sequel

    Writing a second book is like walking a tightrope. On one side, I have readers’ expectations, and on the other, my own vision of where the story must go. Book Two has to be bigger—but not bloated. Deeper—but still intimate. And the stakes? They’re higher than ever.

    This time, I’m working with multiple POVs (yes—Jeremiah, Gabriel will finally speak for themselves). Each character has secrets, regrets, and loyalties that don’t always align. Their paths are colliding in ways even I didn’t expect during early drafts.

    Themes I’m Exploring

    Without giving away too much, Book Two will dive into:

    • The cost of resurrection (both literal and spiritual)
    • What it means to be chosen—and who gets to decide
    • Divine war and human consequence
    • And perhaps most personally… the search for belonging when you no longer recognize yourself

    The Juggle Is Real: Life as an Indie Author with a Full-Time Job

    Being an indie author is one of the most rewarding—and overwhelming—things I’ve ever done. The passion behind writing a book is fierce, but once the final words are typed, that’s when the real work begins.

    Unlike traditional publishing, indie authors wear every hat. We’re not just writers—we’re editors, designers, formatters, marketers, and social media managers all rolled into one. And for many of us, like me, this all happens after hours—after the 9 to 5, after dinner, after life has already drained your energy for the day.

    Balancing a full-time job with writing and marketing a book is like living in two different worlds at once. In the daytime, I’m focused on my career and responsibilities. By night (and sometimes during stolen moments at lunch or weekends), I’m brainstorming scenes, creating graphics, writing blurbs, or planning promotional content.

    The pressure to constantly show up online is real. Social media thrives on consistency, but real life doesn’t always allow for that. There are days when I feel creatively drained. Days when I wonder if anyone even sees the effort I put in. Days when I just want to write—but I can’t, because I’m stuck scheduling posts or researching hashtags.

    The truth is: it’s hard. Really hard. There’s guilt when I’m not productive. There’s burnout from doing too much. And there’s the constant reminder that if I don’t push the book, no one else will.

    But there’s also pride.

    Pride in knowing I finished a story I believe in. Pride in learning new skills that I never imagined I’d need. Pride in showing up for a dream that matters deeply to me, even when it means late nights, early mornings, and sacrificed weekends.

    Being an indie author with a full-time job is a juggling act—and some days, the balls drop. But it’s also proof of resilience, passion, and dedication.

  • How I Plotted Mist of Fallen: Turning Chaos Into Story

    Plotting a novel can feel like standing at the base of a mountain, staring up at the summit, wondering how the hell you’re going to make it to the top. When I started writing Mist of Fallen, I had the idea—the spark—but figuring out how to shape that spark into a full-fledged story was a whole different beast.

    If you’re anything like me—a mix of plotter and pantser (yes, I’m a plantser), maybe this will help you navigate that messy middle ground.

    Step 1: The Spark of the Idea

    For me, Mist of Fallen started with one scene in my head: an angel watching over a girl who doesn’t know he exists. I didn’t know why he was watching or what the stakes were, but that emotional core? That was my starting point. Plotting began with asking why. Why was Gabriel so drawn to Megana? Why was she important? The more I asked, the more the world started to build itself.

    Tip:

    Start with a moment, a question, or a feeling that won’t let you go. That’s your compass.

    Step 2: Big Picture Planning (The 3-Act Structure)

    Once I had the concept, I knew I needed structure. I’m not a fan of rigid outlines, but I love having pillars to guide me. Enter the 3-Act Structure. It looks something like this:

    Act 1: Introduce the world and characters (Who is Megana? What is she running from—or toward?) Act 2: The stakes rise (The world unravels. Angels. Darkness. Choices.) Act 3: Everything explodes (Decisions are made. Lines are crossed. No turning back.)

    I wrote down major plot points I knew I wanted to hit:

    Inciting Incident: The accident that changes Megana’s life. Midpoint Twist: The truth about Gabriel. Climactic Choice: What Megana is willing to sacrifice.

    Tip:

    Think of these as anchor points. The journey between them? That’s where the fun (and fear) happens.

    Step 3: Character Arcs Before Plot Points

    Here’s a secret: I plotted Mist of Fallen through my characters first. Their emotions, their desires, their flaws—that’s what shaped the story. Gabriel’s guilt, Megana’s grief and resilience, Jeremiah’s loyalty—they drove the plot.

    I asked myself:

    What does Megana want vs. what does she need? How does Gabriel’s breaking of the rules escalate the conflict? Where does Raymond’s protectiveness help—or hurt—the family?

    Plotting through emotional beats made the action feel inevitable.

    Tip:

    If you’re stuck, ask yourself what your characters are most afraid of—and then make them face it.

    Step 4: The Scene List (Not a Rigid Outline)

    I didn’t create a strict outline. Instead, I made a loose scene list. I jotted down key scenes I knew had to happen (in no particular order at first):

    Gabriel watching Megana from afar. The car accident. Megana realizing someone is watching her. The world falling apart (literally). The confrontation between Heaven’s rules and Gabriel’s heart.

    As I wrote, some scenes shifted or disappeared altogether. And that’s okay.

    Tip:

    Think of your plot as a living thing—it can (and should) evolve as you discover more about your story.

    Step 5: Filling the Gaps (The “What If” Game)

    Whenever I hit a gap between scenes, I’d play the “what if” game:

    What if Megana’s dreams aren’t just dreams? What if Gabriel saving her sets off something catastrophic? What if the real threat isn’t the darkness outside—but the rules they’re breaking?

    These questions filled in the spaces between the major plot points.

    Step 6: Trusting the Process (And Breaking My Own Rules)

    There were moments writing Mist of Fallen where I completely veered off my plot. A side character demanded more space. A scene felt wrong. The ending wasn’t what I first imagined.

    Plotting gave me the map. But writing? Writing let me explore the uncharted paths.

    Tip:

    Don’t be afraid to burn your outline if the story starts pulling you somewhere new. That’s where the magic happens.

    Final Thoughts

    Plotting Mist of Fallen wasn’t about perfection—it was about direction. It gave me enough of a roadmap to not get lost, but enough freedom to let the story breathe. If you’re working on your own novel, remember: there’s no “right” way to plot. Only the way that works for you.

    the laws of Heaven. Love—true love—was not meant for beings like me. Not

    this kind, at least. Not the kind that made my chest tighten when she laughed.

    Not the kind that made my fingers itch to reach for her, even knowing I never

    could.

    A deep sigh from beside me broke my thoughts.

    “Watching her again?” Jeremiah’s voice was like a gust of wind,

    familiar and grounding. He materialised at my side, his presence effortlessly

    steady, as it had always been through the centuries. His piercing blue eyes

    flickered with something between curiosity and disappointment.

    “I don’t understand you,” he muttered, dropping onto the bench with

    an ease I envied. “This mortal—what is she to you?”

    I turned my gaze away from her, willing my expression to remain

    neutral. “She’s, my charge. It’s my job.”

    Jeremiah scoffed, tilting his head toward the girl who moved

    effortlessly through the park, chatting animatedly with her friend. “And yet,no other guardian angel watches their assignment like this. No other

    archangel lingers longer than necessary.” His voice softened, his usual

    sarcasm fading. “What’s happened to you, Gabriel?”

    The question lingered between us.

    I wanted to tell him that I didn’t know. That I hadn’t realized when

    duty had blurred into something else, something dangerous.

    But that was a lie.

    It had started long ago, long before I admitted it to myself. Megana

    had been different from the beginning. Unlike other humans, who prayed in

    desperate whispers when they needed guidance, she never once sought divine

    intervention. She had faith—not in Heaven, not in celestial beings—but in

    herself, in the people around her.

    And despite everything, despite knowing the cruelty of the humanity,

    she still smiled.

    She was light in a world that had grown dim.

    “I don’t expect you to understand,” I said finally, my voice tight.

    “You’ve never been assigned to someone like her.”

    Jeremiah studied me for a moment, something unreadable flickering

    behind his eyes.

    “Just remember who you are, Gabriel.” His voice was

    quieter now, more serious. “You were never meant to be part of their world.”

    He was right.

    And yet, every time I looked at Megana, I wished that weren’t true.

    It happened in the blink of an eye.

    Sara, the girl Megana always walked with, darted across the street

    without checking for oncoming traffic. It was careless but not unusual—

    humans were reckless, and yet they survived.

    But this time, something in the air shifted. A whisper of warning, an

    unspoken dread curling in my chest. I turned just in time to see the headlights

    of an approaching car rounding the corner, moving too fast.

    Instinct took over before thought.

    I had seen countless human lives flicker out like candles—sometimes

    natural, sometimes cruel. It was never my place to intervene. But Megana…

    She ran.

    Without hesitation, she pushed Sara out of the way, her body twisting

    mid-motion, her feet barely touching the pavement before the car slammed

    “Gabriel,” Jeremiah’s voice was sharp, filled with alarm. He

    appeared beside me, invisible to the mortals but just as present as I was.

    “I don’t care,” I ground out.

    No one else could hear me. No one else could see me.

    Except Megana, as her soul hovered between this world and the next.

    Her chest rose in shallow, uneven gasps. Blood pooled beneath her

    head, staining the pavement a deep, unforgiving crimson. Her body trembled

    as if fighting to hold onto something—onto life itself.

    Sara knelt beside her, tears streaking her face, screaming for someone

    to do something. The paramedics arrived, their voices urgent, but I already

    knew the truth.

    Her heart was failing.

    It was slipping through my fingers like grains of sand.

    And I couldn’t stop it.

    “Jeremiah,” I turned to my oldest friend, desperation clawing its way

    into my voice. “We have to do something.”

    He took a step back, his expression dark. “You know the rules.”

    “Damn the rules!” My voice cracked, something raw and unfamiliar

    threading through my words. “Please. Please, Jeremiah. At least try.”

    Jeremiah looked down at her, his jaw clenched tight. He was torn—I

    could see it. He had always followed orders, always obeyed without

    question. But this was different.

    This was me asking.

    And for the first time, I saw hesitation in his eyes.

    “You don’t understand what you’re asking,” he said, quieter now, but

    I could hear the shift in his resolve.

    “Yes, I do,” I whispered. “I’m asking you to save her.”

    Jeremiah exhaled slowly, then knelt beside her. The ancient language

    of angels flowed from his lips, a prayer not meant for human ears. His handshovered over her chest, a golden light forming between his palms.

    Megana’s body shuddered as her soul teetered on the edge of

    oblivion.

    Then, the light expanded—spreading through her like the first breath

    of dawn breaking over the horizon.
